Getting Through School with the Right College Job

Getting through any of today’s college degree or certificate programs can be difficult on its own, let alone having the responsibilities of a part-time job, full-time job or multiple jobs.  However, as the old saying goes, whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.  Although it brings additional challenges, your college job helps you to pay for expenses and save money in the long run by requiring less financial assistance.  Choose the college job that’s right for you.

Others Have Done It, So Can You!
Keeping one or two jobs while also being a full-time student can seem impossible at times.  Your boss may get upset when you are late to work after a long night of studying.  Your teacher isn’t at all amused when you fall asleep during class after a hard day’s work.  Your significant other sometimes feels deprived of your attention.  Tough as it can be, the experience goes a long way towards preparing you to face the demands of the real world workplace.

It can be reassuring to know that you are not alone.  Many others have come before you and successfully completed their degrees while working full or part-time jobs.  After you have followed in their footsteps, you will look back proudly on your accomplishments.  You will be ready to confidently charge ahead towards whatever life brings next.

Long Term Savings
We’ve all had friends or known people who did not have to work or chose not to work during college.  Unless they had pre-paid college or access to a trust fund, they probably took out hefty loans which will require many years of repayment.

Student loans are available for good reason and have the best terms and interest rates of any type of loan.  They can also add up quickly.  This is especially true for those in professional or master’s degree programs and for those enrolled at private institutions.  All loans have to be paid back someday, so why not minimize the amount of assistance you need?  By working hard and keeping a job throughout your time at college, you will save a lot of money over the long haul.

A Nice Change of Scenery
Let’s not forget that grinding out long hours while studying can become monotonous.  Our jobs provide a welcomed change of scenery. When we return to the books, we do so with a fresh mind.  Variety is truly the spice of life.

Choose the Job That’s Right for You
Do you dream of working in the medical field?  Maybe there is a job you could get at a hospital or private practice.  Is it your goal to be a teacher?  There are many opportunities to work right at your school.  No matter what your aspirations may be, you can probably get a job related to your field of study.  This could potentially lead to future employment after you have graduated and looks great on your resume or cv.

Don’t want to work a job related to your studies?  No one says you have to.  You can work anywhere you please.  Picking the right job is usually all about finding the right balance between how much you enjoy the work and how much it pays.  It may be obvious, but if you don’t like shucking oysters, don’t work at an oyster bar.  Find something you enjoy to get the most out of your years before and after college.

Ocala Unemployment Rate Continued to Climb in July

Ocala Jobs and Employment Data

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, July showed an increase in the Ocala unemployment rate bringing it to 14.1 percent.

The good news is that it didn’t rise as much as it did in June.  The unemployment rate in June rose 0.3 percent to finish at 13.9.

Overall, the rate has gone up 1.2 percent since last July.  In July 2008, the rate was at 8.2 percent.  Although it has still been growing, that growth appears to have slowed considerably.

Stay tuned for what happens when the new data comes back for August.  We’re hoping to see new Ocala job opportunities and a sharp decline in the unemployment rate.
